The Commonwealth’s Attorney is a constitutional officer elected to a four-year term.  He is the chief law enforcement officer in Carroll County and for the eastern part of the City of Galax.  In addition, he provides advice and assistance to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, The Hillsville Town Police, The Galax City Police, The Virginia State Police, The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and The Criminal Investigative Division of the Department of Motor Vehicles. He appoints deputies under his supervision to prosecute felony, misdemeanor, and traffic cases.  All salaries and a portion of the office operating expenses are funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

This Office is responsible for prosecuting not only crimes committed in Carroll County but also felonies committed in Hillsville and the eastern part of Galax.  Our team of attorneys and legal assistants is dedicated to making our community a safer place to live, work, and visit. In cooperation with several different law enforcement agencies, we work to protect victims and to seek just sanctions for those who choose to violate our laws.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is located on the second floor of the Carroll County Government Complex. The Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
