Frequently Asked Questions

What can I do, if I have been taxed with a vehicle I did not own January 1, 2024?
If you have been taxed for a vehicle you did not own January 1, 2024, this means that the DMV showed you to be in possession of the vehicle.  Our office will require proof that you did not own this vehicle January 1, 2024.  Proof may be presented to this office and some examples of that proof include:  Bill of Sale,  Trade in Paperwork, Insurance Removal, etc..
(Also remove the vehicle from your DMV record to prevent vehicle from being taxed next year.)

Can you tell me how much I owe?
NO, only the Treasurer's Office can access that information.

I sold my land but I still received the bill.
Carroll County, does not prorate Real Estate, bills will be mailed to whomever owned the property on January 1, contact your closing attorney to confirm your taxes were prorated at the time of closing by the attorney.

Who sets the tax rates for Carroll County?
